Urdu interpreting and translation in Scotland
Urdu interpreting and translation across Scotland for public services, businesses and families.
About Urdu
Urdu is the national language of Pakistan and is spoken by many people of Pakistani and Indian heritage across Scotland. It is written from right to left in a flowing script, which matters when documents are translated and laid out.
Urdu and Hindi sound very alike in everyday speech, but they are written in different scripts and use different formal vocabulary. For appointments we match on how the person actually speaks. For documents, we match on the script and register that the reader needs.
Booking tips for Urdu
- Say whether a written document should be in Urdu script or whether a spoken summary is enough.
- Tell us the setting (for example GP, solicitor, school) so the interpreter can prepare the right vocabulary.
- If the person speaks another language at home, such as Punjabi, tell us. We will say honestly if we are the right fit.
