Dari interpreting and translation in Scotland

Dari interpreting and translation across Scotland for healthcare, legal, education and community settings.

About Dari

Dari is the Afghan form of Persian and, with Pashto, one of the two official languages of Afghanistan. It is a first language for many Afghan families in Scotland, and often the shared language between people from different parts of Afghanistan.

Dari and Pashto are different languages, even though many people speak both. If you are not sure which one a person needs, ask them, or contact us and we will help you find out before the appointment rather than during it.

Booking tips for Dari

  • Do not assume a person who speaks Pashto wants Dari, or the other way round. Ask which language they are most comfortable in.
  • Send us any names, places and reference numbers in advance, in English letters, so the interpreter can prepare.
  • For longer meetings, tell us the expected length so we can plan breaks.

Questions

Dari: common questions

Is Dari the same as Persian or Farsi?

They are closely related and mostly understood across each other, but Dari is the Afghan variety, with its own vocabulary and accent. We work with Dari as it is spoken and written in Afghanistan.

Do you offer Dari by phone or video?

Yes. Dari is available face to face, by telephone and by video. Remote is often the quickest way to arrange short-notice conversations.
